How much are you worth? That question usually refers to financial worth. Yet, how often do we equate how much we own with our personal worth? It can be easy to feel that we are not worth much unless we have a lot of “stuff.” We buy bigger and bigger homes and fill them up with things we don’t need, things that don’t serve us, and things we don’t really love. Then we wonder why we feel overwhelmed with how much we have to take care of.
To make matters worse, we feel like we are worth more if we are always on the go, always doing something. Having a house full of stuff insures that we have plenty to do, what with so much to take care of, maintain, repair, and organize.
The truth is that our worth has little or nothing to do with what we have or what we do. We are worthy because of who we are. Even with all of our imperfections and shortcomings, we are still worthy.
When we let go of the self-imposed pressure to have too much and do too much, so many problems just melt away. We have time to take care of ourselves, time to walk outdoors and enjoy nature, time to think about the things that truly matter. Then the “having” and the “doing” result from who we are, rather than the other way around.
How much are you worth? When we are being our best selves, it is so much easier to understand the truth, to know that we are already worthy. We are worthy of love. We are worthy of respect. We are worthy of the most fulfilling life we are capable of making.
